Fijian adventures with @syaquijo and @scubasamfiji
South Pacific cruising remains second to none with untouched areas.
Exploring the remote Lau group was particularly special.

HAPPY DAY!

Within the frame of the community actions through the non-profit @yachtaidglobal ‘s Operation Turu, computers and printers were delivered to the small dorm of one of the middle schools on the island of Moorea.

18 kids (aged 11 to 16), all from the remote island of Maiao, live there throughout the school year going back home only for long school breaks.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Culture in French Polynesia, we delivered computers and printers in support of the children’s ongoing education and to facilitate communication with their family back home.

The children gave us a warm and special welcome! It was a moment of connection and sharing.

This is part of a wider project this year aiming at improving the well-being of pupils in or from remote islands.

We can’t thank enough the Minister of Education and his team for his continuous support as well as the local yacht agents @tahiti.ocean tahitisuperyachtsupport and seal_superyachts_tahiti for their donations contributing to elevate the support of the superyacht industry locally.

If you are on a yacht coming our way and would like to find out more how to support YachtAid Global’s actions in French Polynesia, get in touch! 😀

Thank you TNTV Tahiti Nui Télévision

YachtAid Global, participating yacht crews and marine scientists conducted field research on manta rays and epaulette sharks in the Raja Ampat Archipelago. These sharks, also known as “walking sharks” for their unique ability to walk across the shoreline and seafloor using their pectoral and pelvic fins, are endemic to the Raja Ampat area and only grow up to 30” long.

Epaulette sharks, currently listed as nearly threatened on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List, are characterized by their unique spot patterns and are 1 of 9 species of morphologically similar sharks that are native to the waters around Northern Australia, New Guinea, and the Raja Ampat Archipelago.

With little knowledge about these species, the team tagged and tracked the sharks to help establish a population baseline and better understand the “walking sharks” movement patterns. These studies will provide data that enable local scientists to implement effective conservation strategies, helping to ensure the long-term survival and success of the species.
