OCEAN CONSERVATION
Tahiti Private Expeditions and YachtAid Global are joining forces in a long-term
collaborative mission to the benefit of ocean conservation in French Polynesia and the South Pacific.
The registered 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2006 runs “Operation Swimway”, a conservation program featuring investments into the equipment and science of ocean conservation, while enabling interested owners, guests, and crew to work closely with distinguished members of scientific community to accelerate the conservation of pelagic species.
The collaborative efforts are focused on conservation of critical migration corridors for sharks, manta rays, sea turtles, and billfish along routes. These corridors, which have been significantly impacted by overfishing and bycatch, play a critical role in the migration of these species as they seek to reach new feeding grounds and protected pupping areas.
YachtAid Global invests into the ocean conservation science equipment, with yachts engaging in this meaningful conservation work participating in planned activities with scientists, including assisting with dives, operating underwater equipment, tagging, measuring animals, and learning hands-on conservation methods and science.
Operation Swimway is a Global Program. Since the Ocean is global and Marine Animals are migratory – our thinking and work approach need to be grounded in “thinking globally, acting locally”.
French Polynesia is a large as Western Europe, with distances presenting the largest challenges for work. Working together, Tahiti Private Expeditions and YachtAid Global create opportunities to advance Operation Swimway with focused action across French Polynesia thanks to the yachts based in the area and their support.
Tahiti Private Expeditions has always supported “YAG”’s missions and it is a natural and very exciting next step to collaborate together for the sake of our oceans.
