Throughout their lives, whales store enormous amounts of carbon, taking it with them to the seafloor when passing naturally so that it’s not released back into the atmosphere. And that’s not all! Whales support phytoplankton’s ability to capture carbon and generate oxygen through a process called the “whale pump” where whale poo aids in nutrient cycling in marine ecosystems.
We are in the middle of a #climatecrisis. #IfOnlyIceland could see that we need whales alive now more than ever.
