The President Coolidge shipwreck became part of WW2 history.

With its length of 200m, it is the largest accessible wreck dive in the world combining features belonging to its dual function as a luxury passenger cruise liner at its launch in 1931 later converted into a troop carrier in 1941 for the Allies.

It struck a US mine in October 1942 on its way to Espritu Santo, Vanuatu while ferrying soldiers and army equipment to the war front. Nearly all 5,000 officers and men onboard were saved.

Almost completely intact, it is possible to explore the interiors and decks including the famous “Lady”, an Elizabethan statue sitting above the fireplace in the saloon of the ship’s past luxury but also discover military hardware and equipment left there, untouched.

There is also a wide variety af marine life, which made the wreck its home.

The shipwreck has been a Vanuatu’s heritage site since 1972 and is a UNESCO World Heritage.
